The Folly

Donning the sombre cape of wisdom, I tried to clasp you,

Seeking in the mind’s mixed tangle, the Real, the True.

I churned the ocean of word,

Seeking to taste your ambrosial curd.

Every bauble of life I was willing to pawn,

Yet you remained elusive and withdrawn.

Only when an innocence from within called,

You came with all your beauty and enthralled,

I saw my folly in the time I had whiled,

In trying to be wise, I had forgotten to be a child.
