Puri and Puducherry – the Divine Link!

Puri and Puducherry, beautiful twin-city,

The mighty Bay of Bengal being the entity.

Puri towards north and Puducherry in south,

Geographically on East coast of India.

Exactly similar in tonality,

Last letter I replaced with Y!

Puri the religious city with renowned Jagannath Temple,

An astonishing porch and the sanctum sanctorum with the Trimurti,

Bustling with hundreds of people, chants filling the air!

Puducherry the spiritual hub with the enticing Ashram,

The samadhi of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, under a tree-shaded courtyard,

Devotees meditating in the silent ambience is indeed alluring!

‘I’ The Lord Jagannath, incarnation of Vasudeva,

The life’s protector and saviour for ‘You’- Sri Aurobindo.

At the Alipore Jail, this Divine Link was secured!

Post liberation in the Alipore Bomb case, the acclaimed Uttrarpara speech,

When Sri Aurobindo discloses Sri Krishna’s ‘Adesh’,

To leave for Puducherry for the Ashram and or the work!!!

The above poetic prose is an inspiration from my visit to Puducherry in the year 2022 when I found a subtle physical closeness with Puri, which I have visited many times. The similar kind of beach, sandy or rocky, small and large boats in the morning on the sea, the walkway and the small sitting wall besides the beach gives a reminder of the two beautiful cities. Meanwhile I have read the books, “The Tales of Prison Life” and “Uttarpara Speech” by Sri Aurobindo. This I believe, is not a coincidence but indeed Puducherry is a gift to Sri Aurobindo from Vasudeva at Puri and it ignited an inner consciousness in me to pen down this poetic prose, citing the Divine link between these two cities, thanks to the blessings of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo.

  1. Your poetic prose reflects your love of Divine Omnipresent and Immanent in the Creation. Isha Upanishad says: "ईशा वास्यम् इदं सर्वं यत्किंच जगत्यां जगत्.." This world in motion is inhabited by the Lord...."
Puri is the city where temple of Jagannatha, the Lord of Universe, exists, so is city of Puducherry, the place of तपास्या of Sage Agastya as well as of Rishi Aurobindo. I appreciate very much your emotions for the Lord of Universe. Thank you.
