22 February - SAIEN anniversary

Dear Collaborators,

February 2024 is a special time of the year.... with The Mother's birthday on the 21st, followed by Auroville's birthday on the 28th and the leap year Supramental (Golden) day on the 29th of Feb; it is a month of special descents and Grace. February 22nd marks also the 2nd anniversary of the Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Network (SAIEN) that was set up to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, and this wonderful international network of organisations, countries, groups and individuals came together on this day for a special invocation and sharing, connecting those turned towards the Integral path of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

As we have all seen, this past year has been challenging in that the forces opposing the general progress of the world at large have massed together to forge wars in various parts of the world, notably the wars in Israel-Gaza and Ukraine-Russia. We have taken refuge in the words of the Mother about the effect of the Supramental descent on world affairs, whilst praying for peace and harmony. Yet, the devastating effects of war and conflict in various parts of society and the earth are warnings to stay vigilant and adhere to Truth and Harmony at all costs. The Mother’s words ring clear – ‘If you want to establish Peace, first establish Peace in your Heart’.

Upon reflection, I felt that this year, due to the special darshan dates and circumstances coming like waves one upon the other....  it may be more appropriate to invite you all to take one minute on the 22nd of February to quietly invoke the Divine Presence for Peace, Harmony and Goodwill, and let us try and meet online via Zoom sometime mid-year over a shared theme. Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences on the SAIEN blog on the 22nd.

May a fragrant garland of subtle aspiration create the conditions favourable for a New World.

PS: The recent death in custody of the brave-heart Alexei Navalny in Russian prison and the outpouring of grief and support for him and his family, despite a fear mongering and hostile regime, is another sign of the Mother’s force working to awaken the Russian people to free their country from corruption, coercion and ruthless pursuit of personal power. A supreme sacrifice that shall bring its karmic redemption.

    We are children of Immortality, अमृतस्य पुत्राः, so, every moment is an anniversary to celebrate a divine moment. Let us celebrate these moments all the same in a joy of the moment. Let us also look around us if someone is not happy so that we do not fail to make him or her happy. There is enough evidence of this malady in our society, to say the least in this very glorious land of our great Rishis and Rishikas who have seen the Truth, heard the Truth and spoken of the Truth before mankind.
    उत्तिष्ठत जाग्रत प्राप्य वरान्निबोधत ! Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached, obeying the best of these !

    Very relevant topic in light of current geo-political situation in the world and its impact on humanity living in different parts of the world ...it's great feeling to be part of collaborative group coordinated by SAIEN at virtual platform ... To bring harmony in current social system , few of the actions we could take are (i) form focused groups and have webinars on periodic intervals wherein thoughts of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo is shared and participants share their reflections based their experiences in the Life Journey (ii) continue with existing blogs published every week (iii) Visiting ashram and society centers established to spread message of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo ... these measures would help connect us with concept of Integral Yogic approach in daily work Life thus enabling Harmony and peace... May this collaboration be around Truth and Love, and build a culture of harmony, beauty, trust, and give birth to a true, spiritual organisation.

Why is Sri Aurobindo important? I occasionally encounter this question from a lot of people. But I am never quite successful to give a qualified answer. My awkwardness and surname often create a hindrance making others speculate that I am closely related to Sri Aurobindo. Integral Education in the Subjective Age

The following was written for a presentation at one of La Grace (USA) webinars. I share this here as many of us are actively engaged in Integral Education at school or university level.
