Common Threads in Life Journey of Sri Aurobindo and Rabindranath Tagore … My Reflections
One of the popular beliefs is Sri Aurobindo represented Soul and Rabindra Nath represented Heart of Mother India. This is probably due to Sri Aurobindo being widely acknowledged as Seer and PURNA YOGI who brought the concept of Integral Yoga, ascent and descent in consciousness as evolutionary process from surface level to supramental level on the path, whereas Rabindranath was widely acknowledged as a Poet, Dramatist and Romanticism as evidenced by his creative works in field of Art, Music and Poetry.
All of us would have read about the contribution made by Sri Aurobindo and Rabindra Nath Tagore by way of their spiritual insights shared to seekers and as Guiding force. Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry and Visva Bharati in Santiniketan are live testimony of their great contribution to Mother India respectively which have become places of Pilgrimage for seekers.
I have had opportunity to visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry and Visva Bharati campus in Santiniketan on a few occasions due to my father’s close association with both places as a devotee and as a professor respectively. Each time I visited these places I was filled with a feeling of Peace and bliss, roaming around as a seeker on Spiritual path to self-realisation … both offer real life examples of implementation of the concept of Spirituality spread amongst seekers by Sri Aurobindo and Rabindra Nath Tagore.
One of the unifying factors is Nature and its beauty at both places as evidenced by numerous Trees of Spiritual significance. No deity worship. Yet following positive aspects of Indian Tradition, inculcating Value system amongst the students and Meditation, Arts and Music as essential part of curriculum and Daily Life of inmates.
It is a coincidence that both have led Indian milieu to path of transformation through Spiritual pursuits. This has ensured engaging groups dedicated to Music, Art work and collage Industry concept along with numerous reference books of reverence on Indian spirituality, thus bringing enlightened Individuals.

ReplyDeleteThank you Pranav,
DeleteIt's intersting that The Mother turned down an invitation by Tagore to assists him at Shantiniketan when he met her in 1917 (?) in Tokyo.
Apparently, he tells her he found what was written in the Arya to be impracticable. Can you or anyone verify this?
Sri Aurobindo considered Rabindranath Tagore as a co-traveller on the Path of his spiritual journey.
