The Gravity of Joy

A single stride crosses the barrier,
Opening a vista to new worlds.
A horizon is overstepped,
And what had seemed impossible
Now is done.

Behind all the probing and measuring,
Within the urge to scrutinize and dissect,
Is the soul's aspiration to know,
Rushing like a river toward the falls.

The gravity of joy in discovery,
The triumph of proof,
Draw us toward the edge.
In a breathless moment we are airborne,
Sailing into the unknowable abyss,
Which opens its arms to catch us
And reveals its hidden heart,
Its secret self.

What lies beyond the horizon
Will one day be beneath our feet.
